Good Things in Small Packages

Good Things in Small Packages

It’s here, it’s here!  My first Runnerbox came in the mail yesterday and I couldn’t be more excited!!!  It helped that I won a years’ subscription from Yo Momma Runs too so that these little bad boys will be coming to my mailbox every two months in 2013.  Yippee!

Runnerbox is a bi-monthly subscription of products specific to runners and people who are generally active.  Some of the products are new to market while some have been around for some time.  The exciting part is that every box is different and you never know what’s coming.  I think it’s a great idea so that you can try a sampling of a product before committing to a large supply of it.  Like the time I bought my first protein powder only to find out that no matter what I mixed it with it still tasted like the container it was in.  Fooey!

Love the packaging!

Love the packaging!

As I’ve mentioned before I am all over the presentation when I open something and Runnerbox knocked it out of the park!  And then they scored major brownie points by adding a quote.  Great touch.

What a nice touch.

Great quote.  I’ll have to write it in my journal.

Mr. Hockey wanted to tear into it but I had to stop him and make him “step away from the package” little boy.  This one is for Momma! So I carefully peeled the tissue paper off the sticker, folded the paper back and stood in awe.  Wow!  There’s really a lot in one little box.

Goodies galore!

Goodies galore!

I was like a kid in a candy store, oohing and aahing each time I picked something up only to see something even more exciting under it.  It was like a Christmas stocking all over again.

So much to try now!

So much to try now!

And there were three things that I’ve been really wanting to try but haven’t purchased on my own.

So looking forward to these!

So looking forward to these!

I tried the Get Limber tea last night but I don’t think I let it steep long enough since I was in a rush to get out the door.  But I’ll give it a go again soon.  I have tried Jelly Belly Sport Beans before, but it was years ago and have been craving them ever since.  I think I could get highly addicted to these little energy treats.  Honey Stinger  has always been my go to for energy on my runs but I haven’t tried the waffle yet.  I’m thinking that I will save it for a long run when I’m needing a little extra gas in the tank.

Well, things are starting to look up around here as far as running goes.  There’s a reason I’m smiling and it’s not the mountains of snow we just got either.

Someone's a happy camper!

Someone’s a happy camper!

I don’t think our dog Maggie was all too happy when she saw the condition of our backyard when nature called.  In fact, I had to give the backdoor a good push to even let her out.

The one time I'm glad I'm not a dog.

The one time I’m glad I’m not a dog.

Funny, she’s happy to be inside and I’m smiling because I get to go outside.  Usually it’s the other way around.

Did you order all this snow , Mom?

I at least got a few days inside after the big snow storm before bundling up for a run.  But it sure was a cold one!  -21 C (-6 F).  I think I spent more time trying to find all my layers than I did putting them on.

All bundles up and ready to go.

All bundled up and ready to go.

The sun was shining, my ankle was feeling good and the Garmin was charged.  I was on Cloud 9!  I ran a very conservative 2 miles at an average pace of 11:53 min/mi.  I didn’t want to push it since it was the first time out after spraining my ankle and the thought of having to sit around with another injury was enough to keep me trotting along slowly.  My ankle felt great but my PF was all over the place.  At first it was tight, then it loosened, then it felt like it was too loose and that my foot wasn’t supported enough when I went over bumpy patches.  I’m not really sure what’s going on except that things aren’t 100% yet and I still have a lot of work to do.  I’m going to continue with the foot exercises, massage and balance board in the hopes that I can get my foot ready in time for the Hypothermic Half coming up this February.

All in all, it was a great day, a good run and very refreshing.  VERY refreshing!  Like stick your head in a tub of ice refreshing.

Frosty the snow runner.

Frosty the snow runner.

Now there’s a sexy mother runner look if there ever was one!  Oh the things I’ll do for my readers.  Enjoy and feel free to laugh at it as hard as I did.  O.K. that’s enough.  No really.  Stop.  It’s not that funny.  O.K.  Maybe it is!  LOL

Do you subscribe to Runnerbox?  What’s the best thing you’ve ever received?

Do you brave the snow (if you have any, if not rain) or fire up the dreadmill?

***Runnerbox has not compensated me for this review.  I was just lucky enough to win the year subscription.  All opinions expressed are my own and were in no way influenced by the people at Runnerbox.

I haven’t tried RunnerBox but I just subscribed to StrideBox last week. I should get my first one in February! I’m excited. Looks like you got some nice goodies in that one! My husband really likes the Stingers Waffles too. I hope you enjoy it!

Unexpected love from the box: the accel gel. It was tasty and, if I remember correctly, has more calories than other gels. Perfect if you want to eat fewer of them during a run! And the sport beans were awesome. I took them with me on New Year’s Eve, and every couple of songs we danced, I would pop a bean with my sister. For some reason we found it hilarious that we were using sport beans to give us energy for dancing. So if they don’t work for running, try them for dancing!

I totally want a runner box!! That looks awesome. I’m going to look into it. I love running goodies, so I’d love to get a little surprise package every couple of months!

So far I’m really liking all the stuff in it too. Plus I love the anticipation of getting a new one in a couple of months!
